Different Variations of Pergolas on Deck. Decks and Pergolas.
There’s a lot of different variations of outdoor structures, and one of them is called pergola. Pergola is a relatively new addition to peoples’ backyards and gardens, it consists of a roof of sorts and the support pillars. In some cases there’s no pillars, if the roof is small enough and can be supported via other means.
The topic of today’s post is pergola on deck. While pergolas themselves are quite common, people rarely think through the details of the flooring under their pergolas. Having a pergola on deck allows for increased lifespan of the floor in the first place by being higher than the ground, and thus avoiding the flooding and other weather conditions that can damage the floor under a pergola.
There are quite a few different deck pergola ideas out there, and we’ll show some of them below.
You can see one of the deck and pergola ideas above. In this case the pergola itself stands on a wooden platform and there’s a layer of rubble between the wood and the earth and grass of the backyard. This approach makes it easier to keep the insides of a pergola cleaner, along with the rest of the pergola agava advantages.
There’s also another one of the many deck pergola ideas, this one is a bit more sophisticated. The entire pergola stands on the platform of a significant height, and there’s also other additions to the entire construction, like the fence on the pergola’s edges, and a set of stone stairs that leads under the pergola in question. This kind of approach is less about pergola as a part of the backyard, and more about pergola as an additional living space outside of the house.
Another example of a pergola as an extension of the house itself is from Croatia, you can see it above. In this case the pergola, as well as the entire house, as well, are placed on a platform above the ground, making it easier than before to keep the pergola’s interiors clean and safe. Other additions, like the railing, are making it even easier to treat the entire building as one single structure piece, including the area covered by pergola.
There are other use cases for pergolas, aside from the house attachments, of course. In the example above you can see the implementations of one of the pergola deck designs – the outdoor covered territory of a restaurant. Using a pergola on deck in this case allows the restaurant to have control over the pergola’s roof settings, making the sitting arrangements more comfortable for the restaurant’s customers, no matter the weather.
Going back to the personal-use pergolas, this freestanding structure is another one of the deck pergola ideas that utilizes all of the advantages of a platform underneath the pergola to make the entire structure more useful and easier to clean. The pergola itself utilizes a number of side covers from different materials, covering the entire area from one side, and leaving the way for plants to grow on the other side. The sitting area within a pergola is nicely furnished, as well, making it an ideal choice for the purpose of outdoor rest and recreation.
All of the examples above are also using aluminum as the main material for an entire pergola. Aluminum is particularly useful for a number of reasons – it’s sturdy, requires barely any maintenance, and looks modern in all of the situations.
